Studying medicine abroad: what to check first

Medicine · 4 min read

Recognition, entry requirements and costs: the questions to answer before you apply.

A medical degree is a long, significant investment. Before you choose a university, make sure you have answers to these questions.

Is the degree recognised where you want to practise?

Recognition depends on the university, on the country and on the rules of the medical authority where you plan to work. Check the current rules with the relevant authority, and ask us to confirm the status of each university before you apply.

What are the entry requirements?

Most medical programmes expect a strong science background, usually including Biology and Chemistry. Some also require an entrance test or interview. Requirements vary by university.

What is the full cost?

Compare tuition, living costs, accommodation, insurance and travel for the whole length of the programme, not only the first year.

What is the teaching and clinical experience like?

  • Language of instruction
  • Where and when clinical training takes place
  • Class sizes and student support
  • Pass rates and what graduates go on to do

What happens after you graduate?

Ask about licensing exams, internships and the steps needed to practise in your home country or elsewhere.

Our counsellors can walk you through partner medical universities in Georgia and the Caribbean and explain the process step by step.
